From Algaida about Sineu
to Binissalem: in the centre of the island " other Majorca " rules how
individualists name the original regions beyond the tourist centers. Vineyards,
windmills, fields, idyllic villages, homemade Schlemmereien, traditional
profession: Here our top Ten for heart of Majorca...
1) By blossoming
meadows cycle
The most pleasant cycle roads lead about the fertile plateau in the centre
of the island. Around Algaida, Campos, Montuiri, Porreres and Petra there
are beautiful, country lanes nearly free of upward gradient. Pleasure
cyclists or pleasure hikers can get to know here completely relaxing country
and people. To the siesta small Fincas or farms with homemade Majorcan
titbits lure. Wonderful is also a picnic on one of a lot of full green
meadows - sit between poppy and Margariten and enjoy the smell of jasmine
and apricot flourishes...
2) On romantic
Fincas live
Full of corners historic farms from Majorcan natural stone, lovingly and
individually restores: this idyll beyond the resigned tourist's paths
enchants! Particularly stressed town-dwellers know how to estimate the
meditative peace on the Majorcan country. The ringing of Sheeps, chirping
the cicadas and the singings of the nightingale form the single background
noise.
3) Excellent wines
taste
The route Binissalem, Consell, Santa Maria del Camí, Santa Eugènia
and Sencelles is already considered as " Majorcan Weinstrasse ". Binissalems
winegrower have done a name to themselves during the last years with excellent
red wines, Rosés, white wines and sparkling wines internationally.
Brand names: mainly the originally Majorcan Rebsorten Manto Negro and
minor are cultivated. The red wines have a rather high alcoholic content
and a strong personality. They are full-bodied, harmoniously and are suitable
to the ageing. The white wines are differentiated as, are characterized
delicately and fruity. Tip for the journey preparations: a virtual guidance
offers the Bodega Macia Batle (www.maciabatle.com).
One finds addresses of the most important vineyards on the homepage of
the adjustment council (www.binissalemdo.com).
4) In earthy hostels
gormandize
Thanks to the numerous good bars in their wayside C-715 in the region
around Algaida carries the pet name "Fressstrasse". Particularly this
is estimated
" S ` Hostal d ` Algaida " - restaurant enterprise and sales of gourmet's
products from own production (C-715, km 21, Tel.: 971-66 51 09, daily
opened and surely positively). Hot tip for barbecue fans: " Approx. `
l Dimoni " immediately in the neighborhood. There are Majorcan meat courses
of the open grill - for example, lamb chops with roasted cloves of garlic
and piquant put on savoy cabbage (C-715, km 21, Tel.: 971-66 50 35, Mi
closed). Famous the "Cellers" (cellar restaurants) of Inca are also (e.g.,
" Celler Can Amer ", C/. Pau 39, Tel.: 971-50 12 61).
5) On picturesque
Placas relax
Simply follow the wound highways! Villages
and small towns with churches from sandstone and houses with green shutters
lie with the wayside. Every still so small one
Loo has a beautiful " Plaza mayor " (main square) with Open Air café
or bar. Who stays here a little, a feeling agrees for the charming own
way of life of the Mallorquiner beyond the tourism. At all costs also
a little by the close, lovingly with flowers to decorated little alleys
stroll!
6) Sineus experience
market racket For over 700 years one does not understand every Wednesday from eight
o'clock in the morning on Sineus " Placa Espanya " his own word any more
- before loud cacklings, cooing, crows, croaking and twittering. Who would
like to hear in addition still bleating, mooing and neigh, should come
early. Since the trade with horses, donkeys and cows is fast past. Then
the farmers slurp theirs " sopesmallorquines
" in the cellar restaurants, and hundreds from Federviechern take over
the exclusive regiment. Acoustically the salesmen of their cackling goods
follow incidentally in nothing. Children find it at the mad market almost
as beautifully as in the Streichelzoo: friendly traders pass lettuce sheets
to them to feed chickens, pigeons or ducks. Adults are occupied to catch
louder curious snapshots. Near animal there is in the close alleys all
around the church also all other - for example, fruit, vegetable, table
cloths, nightdresses, Dessous, wood carvings, ceramics, baskets... Art
experts do in the afternoon an excursion in the modern gallery " S ` to
Estació " in the old, disused railway station of Sineu.
7) High-quality
island products make purchases
The factories Outlets of the leather metropolis Inca are an Eldorado for
bargain hunter! For example, the Majorcan shoe manufactures "Lottusse"
(in the main street, Av. del Raiguer, 2)
and " of cash council offer the highest quality in 1890 " (Av. del
general Luque, 480). Fans of the cult-shoe brand "campers" think in the
" Re camper Shop " to prototypes, exhibits and discontinued models (nearness
Placa of 1st demaig).
Hand-made products from olive wood gives ` s shortly before the entrance
to the village Manacor with "olive-kind"("olive-way") (Ctra. Palma-Manacor,
km 47). In Manacor the most famous art pearls-factory of Majorca " Perlas
Majórica " (Av is also. Majórica, 48). On the highway C-715
with Algaida there resides the oldest glasswork of the "island Gordiola.
With the eyes of numerous spectators glass-blowers transform annealing
lumps into multicoloured little horses, candlesticks or bowls. The small
families destillery F burns first-class Majorcan liqueurs like Hierbas,
Palo or Mesclat. Vidal Catany in Llucmajor (C/. San Francisco s/n).
The most beautiful earthenwares gives ' s in Pòrtol where
to this day eight pottery small firms exist. In the adjacent loo Sa Cabaneta
the island-typical "Siurell" figurines are modelled from white loam. The
small crafts enterprise " Artesanía textile Bujosa " manufactures
the desired Majorcan furnishing fabrics with tongue sample (robesdellengo) in
Santa Maria del Camí on five mechanical looms (C/. Bernardo de
Santa Eugenia 53).
8) To heaven monasteries
make a pilgrimage
Behind high walls hidden, the former Minoritenkloster " Convento de
lies off Mínimos " with the main street of Santa María del
Camí. Brand names: the wildly romantic garden. The green oasis
in the middle of local centre is the ideal place to renounce the everyday
life and to allow to dangle the soul. The Randa mountain " Puig de
Cura " immediately accommodates three monasteries. In a close curve the
entrance lies to the first monastery " Nostra Senyora de
Gràcia ", 1440 of a Franciscan's monk created. Only a kilometer
farther uphill the next monastery " Sant Honorat " - appears already,
unfortunately, only outwardly, because also to this day the monks of the
Kongregation of the holy hearts, since 1890 have the landlords, in severer
examination. No guest's reception! But tired pilgrims already find a few
turning farther refuge: by breathtaking height the monastery " Nostra
Senyora de Cura " - almost lies like the
gate to the sky (info under www.mallorcaweb.net/santdecura).
The history of the monastery is connected inseparable with the name Ramón
Llull. The legendary Franciscan from the Middle Ages (1235-1316) spent
here ten productive years: He learned Arab, invented the Catalan written
language and a so-called mental engine - visit for many information scientists
the ancestor of the computer (Llull museum!). A small pilgrim's journey
is worth also the monastery "Monti Sion" with Porreres. The street to
the monastery is hemmed by interesting ruins: the pillar pairs from the
year 1497 represent seven joys and seven sufferings. From the top of the
hill Monti Sion one has a picture book look in the valley.
9) By the time
travel
In the countryseat " Els Calderers de Sant
Joan " (Ctra. Palma-Manacor, km 37) could draw the former squires at any
time again. Everything still looks almost just like at their(her) lifetimes
about 200 years ago: from the elegantly furnished rooms about the workshops
as far as cattle breeding and agriculture (www.todoesp.es/els-calderers).
Who would like to receive a lively impression of medieval Majorca, goes
in the small small town Petra with his sand-coloured houses and narrow
little streets. Incidentally Fra Junípero Serra was born here,
founder by nine missions in California (birthplace and museum of Serra
in the C/. Barracar old person, 6-8).
10) Nostalgic windmills
admire One sees particularly many "Molins" in the region around Sa Pobla
and Algaida. The beautiful blue-white or green-white metal lamellas adorn
windmills of Majorca only since the 1930s. In the 1950s numerous farmers
have replaced for their wind turbines with electric pumps and diesel pumps,
besides, 480 liters of water heraufpumpen
can do wind turbines with every rotation per minute. Since 1970 almost
all wind turbines stand still. Private individuals were involved in their
getting as a landmark first, in the meantime the island council has also
taken care of the "Molins" and subsidizes the labour cost of the restoration
(photos and info under www.conselldemallorca.net/fodesma/molins).
